Jones came unblocked up the middle and smashed New England quarterback Bailey Zappe, forcing a fumble that set the offense up at first-and-goal at the 6-yard line. And Sean Payton’s offense continued its season-long struggle in goal-to-go situations, getting stoned on three rush attempts and a pass, including a fourth-and-goal failure from the 2-yard line. All of that added up to hit on several themes of the season, all in the first 1 minute, 42 seconds of action at Empower Field. No game day surprises. Denver entered Sunday mostly healthy and had no surprises on its game day inactives list.Outside linebacker Nik Bonitto (knee) led the inactives after he was ruled out Friday. Then I went sailing here on the harbor with a mate of mine who was in the navy and I was just hooked.”In 2006, May and his crew won handicap honors as the skipper ...

Vikings miss Cousins more than ever after Mullens’ 4 interceptions in loss to Lions

Published Tue, 04 Mar 2025 05:38:34 GMT

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Kirk Cousins had started all but two games in his six seasons for Minnesota, giving the Vikings rare continuity at quarterback before he went down in October with a season-ending Achilles tendon tear.On their fourth starting quarterback of the season, the Vikings are discovering the harsh reality of life without Cousins, the four-time Pro Bowl player who is already third in team history in passing yards. While Joshua Dobbs’ sudden emergence provided a temporary solution, the swinging door at quarterback now has Minnesota out of playoff position in the NFC. Nick Mullens threw for 411 yards and two touchdowns but also had four interceptions — and two fumbles the Vikings recovered — in the 30-24 loss to Detroit on Sunday.“I thought he was aggressive with his arm,” Minnesota coach Kevin O’Connell said. “There were some opportunities that, even on some of those turnovers that happened, I thought there was some potential grass to maybe throw the ball away from defenders,...

ATLANTA (AP) — After blowing out the Pittsburgh Steelers last week to move into a tie for first place in the AFC South, the Indianapolis Colts were feeling good about themselves as they tried to chase down a playoff spot in AFC. One week later, the Colts seemed at a loss for answers after a dispiriting 29-10 loss to the Atlanta Falcons.“It is a week-to-week league. The wins don’t carry over and neither do the losses,” said Colts quarterback Gardner Minshew. The Colts had won four in a row before a 20-point loss to the Bengals on Dec. 10 halted momentum. But the Colts bounced back with a 30-13 rout of the Steelers, giving themselves optimism they would return to the playoffs for the first time since 2020.The solid play from the Steelers win carried over into the first possession of the game against the Falcons. The Colts went 75 yards in 13 plays, capping the drive with a 1-yard run from Jonathan Taylor. The Colts’ No. 1 back had missed three games with a thumb injury and appear...
