ALBANY, N.Y. (WTEN) -- School safety is on the minds of many, after a deadly school shooting in Nashville and false reports of shootings at multiple New York school districts. The Assembly Minority updated New Yorkers on the latest from the Task Force on School Safety and Security. The task force has met up a total of six times, you can find their report here. They traveled around the state listening to parents, faculty, and law enforcement to come up with a plan to protect our youth and prevent further tragedies from taking place. Two key takeaways from those meetings were mental health and open communication. Local schools receive unfounded active shooter reports "The ability for our mental health professionals, school professionals, parents, teachers, guidance counselors, law enforcement, all to be able to speak with each other together about relevant issues is going to be critical and moving things forward in terms of promoting school safety," said Dr. Michael Prezioso, Direc...Katharine McPhee, David Foster concert in Troy canceled

Denver mayoral candidate Lisa Calderón, incumbent City Councilwoman Candi CdeBaca and a slate of progressive candidates for other council offices are the targets of newly filed campaign finance complaints, alleging the group shared resources from third-party groups in ways that violate the city’s Fair Election Fund rules and City Code. The complaints allege Calderón illegally coordinated and took non-monetary support from Emerge Colorado, the organization that Calderón leads, and the Democratic Socialists of America. If true, the unreported support, known as in-kind contributions, could put the campaigns over the limits established for candidates using the Fair Election Fund. The Fair Election Fund, established after voters approved a major overhaul of campaign finance rules in Denver in 2018, provides public matching dollars for small donations to candidates who agree to abide by lower contribution limits.Lawyers who have assessed the evidence at the heart of those complaints say tha...Defense for Robin Niceta, ex-partner of former Aurora chief, claims she’s incompetent to stand trial

Defense attorneys for Robin Niceta, the onetime partner of former Aurora Police Chief Vanessa Wilson, were heard in open court Thursday morning informing the judge that Niceta is potentially incompetent to stand trial because of a brain tumor and cancer diagnosis.Niceta, a former social worker in Arapahoe County, is accused of filing a false child abuse complaint against Aurora City Councilwoman Danielle Jurinsky after the councilwoman criticized Wilson, who was at the time still Aurora’s police chief, during a radio interview. After asking to approach the judge’s bench, Niceta’s attorneys on Thursday told the judge she is unfit for trial due to her cognitive abilities and claimed there was no way for her to regain competency.Niceta appeared in court virtually Thursday morning, appearing unable to speak or raise her hand at the judge’s request.“I believe Robin is a master manipulator. I think she’s been doing this for a long time, hurting people, destroying families, and ...Two of three I-70 closures in mountains due to crashes reopen

The high-roller gambler who opened fire on concertgoers on the Las Vegas Strip had lost tens of thousands of dollars while gambling weeks before the mass shooting and was upset about how the casinos had treated him, according to FBI documents made public this week. The documents reveal the strongest indication of a motive for the deadliest mass shooting in modern American history. They paint a detailed account of gunman Stephen Paddock's final days before the Oct. 1, 2017, mass shooting that killed 60 people and injured hundreds more. A gambler whose name is redacted from the hundreds of pages of documents told the FBI that Paddock “was very upset at the way casinos were treating him and other high rollers."This October, 2017 file evidence photo released by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department Force Investigation Team Report shows the interior of room 32-134 of Las Vegas shooter Stephen Paddock's 32nd floor room at the Mandalay Bay hotel.
