Nikola Jokic, ever studious, takes an instinctive first glance over the box score placed in front of him every time he sits for a postgame news conference. Something startled him Thursday night. The two-time MVP lauded for his hoops IQ was alarmed when he saw Michael Porter Jr.’s 3-point stats after Game 1 of the NBA Finals.“Mike was 2-for-11, and I thought he made, like, seven threes,” Jokic said, taking one of his patented long pauses.“Crazy.”That’s how good MPJ was in a 104-93 Nuggets win over the Miami Heat. Good enough to trick the Joker into imagining phantom 3-pointers.Porter managed a 14-point, 13-rebound double-double with stellar defense in spite of ghastly efficiency in the one area of the game where the most is expected of him.“He’s doing more than just knocking down shots,” Jamal Murray said, “and that’s dangerous.”A pitiful perimeter night was mitigated by excellence in every other way. The other point of focus is sanction circumvention. DENVER (AP) — Aaron Gordon isn’t just the Denver Nuggets’ defensive stalwart, he’s their jump starter.Gordon hounded Jimmy Butler into one of his worst playoff performances Thursday night, but it was on the offensive end that he really sparked the Nuggets’ 104-93 win over the Miami Heat in the franchise’s first NBA Finals appearance in its 47-year history.“Aaron really kind of set the tone on both ends of the floor for us,” Nuggets coach Michael Malone said after Gordon muscled his way past smaller defenders in the paint to score 16 points while also helping to hold Butler to just 13 points on 6-of-14 shootng.Gordon did most of his offensive work in the first quarter, scoring a dozen points on 6-of-8 shooting and pulling down four of his six rebounds as the Nuggets shook off a 10-day layoff to win their seventh straight playoff game and improve to 13-3 in the postseason and an NBA-best 43-7 at home. Then, he spent the rest of the night making sure Butler...Inside Europe’s Parliament of bullies

EU authorities have repeatedly failed to protect victims of bullying by powerful politicians, amid a culture of indifference toward harassment within the European Parliament, a major POLITICO investigation reveals. A picture built up over four months, based on dozens of interviews and confidential documents, showed a system in crisis that has left junior staffers scarred by years of abuse. Witnesses and victims, who were granted anonymity to speak candidly, described feeling “physically and mentally dead” or even suicidal as a result of harassment, and suffering anxiety and sleep deprivation as they waited for several months — or longer — for their complaints to be processed. One likened the experience of the delays to waiting like “prisoners on death row.” Some insiders said the scale of bullying within the headquarters of EU democracy was “out of control” while others alleged they had suffered sexual harassment and said “mind games” were rife. Often, it was eas...Latest news
